Location: I-95 Exit 173 Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina
We just returned from driving I-95 from I-20 in Florence SC to Philadelphia. We also stopped at exit 173 in Roanoke Rapids NC, and ate at Ryan’s Steak House. I have to add my kudos about this restaurant. They have a great buffet, really reasonable prices (about $10 for the buffet and drink), really friendly and courteous employees. I would recommend Ryan’s for everybody. We stayed at the Hampton Inn in Roanoke Rapids- it’s a motel type, but clean and comfortable like all Hamptons.

I’m actually a native of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina. That particular exit is affectionately known as BURGER BOULEVARD (aka Weldon Road). You can find Ryan’s Steakhouse (which I love as we have them in Texas as well) and many other restaurants there too. Just about every type of food can be found here from Italian (Pizzas, pastas) to Chinese (in the plaza on the Northern side of that exit) to Burgers and Tacos and Submarine sandwiches and other fast food places. In addition to the food, Roanoke Rapids also offers MANY places to stay for the evening– all clean and cozy and affordably priced. One of the the more common compliments of Roanoke Rapids, and a compliment commonly seen from visitors who have taken the time to write to the Daily Herald, is the focus on simple Hospitality. It made me very proud to see such nice things said. Thank you for complimenting Roanoke Rapids.
Often, one of the most difficult things to do when traveling is to find a good restaurant; one with great food and reasonable prices. We recently came back from Myrtle Beach, and on our return trip had the opportunity to stop in Roanoke Rapids, N.C. To our surprise, a wonderful restaurant named Ryan’s Steak House was located just off the interstate. In short, the food quality and prices were truly unsurpassable; the establishment was well maintained, and the employees went out of their way to make sure that guests were happy. This was one of the best restaurants that we ate in during our trip. We would recommend this restaurant to anybody. P.S. It’s located at exit 173, and there is a Holiday Inn and a Hampton Inn also at this exit.
We just ate here last Thursday (October 7, 2010). We live within an hour of Roanoke Rapids and eat here at least once every 2 months. The food is ALWAYS great, however, the bathrooms really could use some work. Hopefully, they’re not ALWAYS dirty but in my experience, they’ve always been untidy when we’ve visited. On this past visit there was NO toilet paper in any stall in the lady’s bathroom. We had to request some before using the facilities. And YES, it has happened on more than one occasion. Other than that, we really enjoy eating at this Ryans!
