Was the Brunswick Georgia Pig opened in the late 70's? I will never forget stopping there the day... or week it opened. A guy was standing at the I-95 exit with a sandwich board that said "Georgia Pig". We stopped and had the best BBQ ever! Wish I could go back.

OK, I used to stop here every year on my 28 hour drive to visit my friends and family in Southern Fl. Like others I would get it so I would arrive right at dinner. Last year, we pull in after 21 hours on the road, looking forward to the food (certainly not the tude). Get there and we are not allowed in because someone is having a wedding rehearsal dinner. When my wife and I saw this (true we thought it odd a place for a wedding rehearsal) we were planning on dropping a c note to the couple. We never got in so I didn't eat there last year and saved a hundred.

To be honest, the bbq isn't bad (there are other places every bit as good, however.) The staff are sometimes glum and snappish and it is like entering a cell block with what they want done before they'll serve you (and you clean up after yourself as well.) I still go there now and then, but really, the place doesn't look all that clean either and the parking lot is like one of Dante's circles of hell. Last time I was there some people were stuck in deep mud there and a highway patrolman who had stopped by for a sandwich was helping them pry their car out of the muck.

Despite the Pig's surly atmosphere and the plethora of signs telling patrons what they may and may not do, I've come to love GA Pig. The meat here is the real deal, smoked and cooked to tender perfection, and the flavor is absolutely fabulous. Cram some of that cole slaw on top and mash together the already pressed bread and enjoy a truly delicious chopped bbq sandwich.

This place is still the best BBQ I ever had. The chopped pork sandwich or plate is highly recommended.
