Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill and Bar – Various Locations

Comment on this review »

Location: Various locations

This is a nice place to take the family! Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill & Bar is a national chain with a great atmosphere, a nice selection and reasonable prices. There seem to be more and more Applebee’s being built and we’ve noted that the menu varies from region to region but some of the more popular choices are common to all. They have also got a great selection for the kids.

Browns Lobster Pound – Seabrook, New Hampshire

Location: I-95, Exit 1, Seabrook, New Hampshire

This is a few miles off the highway — but worth the few minutes’ drive.

When we were youngsters, we would NOT tell tourists about this place, lest it be “ruined”. But it’s great, and during tourist season, it’s packed. You can take a seafood platter — or, the local specialty, lobster. You pick your own, by weight and they steam it for you. This is a “seafood in the rough” place, which is typical of seafood places on the New England coast.

They have moderate prices, cash only (ATM is on site), and I don’t know if they accept Canadian money. There is no alcohol sold BUT you can BYOB, and there’s no beer store nearby, so if you want a beer — and what goes better with New England seafood than beer? — you should make a stop and pick up a can or two.

Newick’s Seafood Restaurant – Newington, New Hampshire

Location: I-95, Exit 4, Newington, New Hampshire

Newick’s is a little difficult to find. Take I-95 exit 4 and travel about 5 miles west on US Route 4 to Newington. It’s located on a frontage road and looks out on the “Great Bay”. This is genuine New England seafood… and about as fresh as you can get! Generous portions, great prices, in an informal, family atmosphere. You have to try the boiled lobster, you’ll be hooked! (no, I do not work there but go there every time I’m in the area)

99 Restaurant – Seabrook, New Hampshire

The 99 Restaurant has generous portions and low prices. You’ve got to try the broiled sirloin tips! One pound of tender, juicy, marinated, flame-broiled beef! I’m hungry already. The “99″ is a small (about 60) family-owned regional chain of New England restaurants. Very popular with the locals, so you know it’s good. We’ve been to several in New Hampshire and Massachusetts and the quality, service and prices are consistently good.

Blimpie Subs – Various Locations

I’m a sub man. Always was, always will be. On the road (I’m a salesman) I need good food fast and cheap. Blimpie’s is great food, cheap. I just whip out my Blimpie’s card, order a 12″ Blimpie’s Best and I’m good to go. It’s healthy food too… but that’s not why I like it. It’s just good ;-)

Cracker Barrel – Various Locations

We’ve always enjoyed breakfast at the Cracker Barrel. They give you good southern food and good friendly service. They also serve lunch and dinner. We recommend this restaurant for a good hearty breakfast at reasonable prices. The rest rooms are very clean. They have a nice gift shop, and have some very charming country items.

International House of Pancakes – Newington, NH

This IHOP is a couple of miles from I-95. Take exit 4 to US Route 4 to exit 1 and the Newington Mall. It’s tucked away at the eastern end of the property. There aren’t too many IHOPs in northern New England and this one is fairly new.

Reasonable prices and hearty helpings, who could ask for anything more? Whenever we head to the coast for a few days, we make it a point to stop at this IHOP at least once. The kids love it!

Master McGrath’s – Seabrook, NH

Location: I-95, exit 1 – Seabrook, New Hampshire

We stay at the Best Western across the street from Master McGrath’s and usually eat there at least once during our stay. We have always loved the food and the service. We especially like it when the older gentleman, who has been there forever, waits on us. He is old school and is a joy to have him attend our table. The Pub is also good and more relaxed, always a fun crowd at the bar and if you don’t like to sit at the bar, there are booths. Sometimes there is entertainment which is a added plus. We have tried many places to eat around this area, but we keep going back t o Mcgrath’s.

Denny’s

Location: Various locations

If you’re looking for a change from the fast-food, eat and run stop, try Denny’s. There’s all kinds of them from Virginia to Florida and many are located just off the exits.

For roughly the same price as a fast-food joint, you get to sit down and take a break and be waited on. One nice thing about Denny’s is no matter which one you visit, the menus and prices are all the same. You can get a full breakfast or lunch for under $5, or a respectable dinner for well under $10. It’s not the Ritz but not too shabby for the price.

Papa Gino’s Family Pizzaria

Location: Various locations along I-95 in New England

Papa Gino’s is a New England chain of pizzerias specializing in American-style pizza along with pasta, subs, salads, and a variety of appetizers. I’m your typical pizza lover… I could eat it daily if my wife would let me. Of all the pizza I’ve experienced Papa Gino’s is definitely in my top 5. Prices are a little high but they are always having specials deals. AAA members also get special treatment.

There are several Papa Gino’s located just off I-95 exits in Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut. They also have plans to expand beyond New England… New York, Virginia and Florida. Give them a try!
