99 Restaurant – Seabrook, New Hampshire

The 99 Restaurant has generous portions and low prices. You’ve got to try the broiled sirloin tips! One pound of tender, juicy, marinated, flame-broiled beef! I’m hungry already. The “99″ is a small (about 60) family-owned regional chain of New England restaurants. Very popular with the locals, so you know it’s good. We’ve been to several in New Hampshire and Massachusetts and the quality, service and prices are consistently good.

Clarks Inn and Restaurant – Santee, South Carolina

When one drives up to the front of this place one would expect that this is a high-priced place to eat. What a nice surprise to find a delicious, reasonably priced luncheon buffet with elicious fried chicken, southern casseroles, lots of veggies and salad bar, plus homemade soups and desserts, ie, blueberry and peach cobbler. One could also order ala carte, but this was a wonderful value.

We love to stay here overnight and have one of their breakfasts. This place is within the sight of the I-95, but the food is within sight of “heaven”. We recommend it!

The Brass Lantern Steakhouse – Dunn, North Carolina

I-95, Exit 72 – Dunn, North Carolina

The billboard ads are true… “Prime Rib for Two, only $21.95″. And they are very good (although at least one notch below the Prime Rib in Baltimore and Washington). Each prime rib is about 8 ounces, and cooked they way you like them (just specify). A potato is included. The salad bar is extra (we haven’t tried it).

A nice touch: we can stop there, order, eat and leave within about 30-40 minutes. Surprisingly, the decor is pretty nice, especially the windows at holiday season. They are reminiscent of the old department store windows at holidays. Not open on Sundays. Opens at 5 PM.

I-95 Exit 24 (King’s Highway) – Bridgeport, Connecticut

D’Angelos makes the best subs and salads. We always make it a point of stopping on our way up to visit family in Massachusetts. The staff is always courteous and accommodating (even when we’ve come in 10 minutes before closing!). I have never had a bad sandwich/sub there ever!

Cracker Barrel – Fredericksburg, Virginia

Although I live in North Carolina, this particular Cracker Barrel restaurant in Fredericksburg, Virginia has very great service and food. Every time I head up to New Jersey, I always stop at this Cracker Barrel for breakfast and the food is outstanding. During my wait, I look around the gift shop to keep me busy. The best deal I usually get is of course, the Old Timers’ Breakfast with almost everything. Most of all, don’t forget your cup of coffee.

If you would love to have hand chopped cooked with wood and seasoned to perfection than you should try eating good ol North Carolina Barbeque cooked by none other than Emmett McRae.

When asked Mr. McRae said that he has been cooking his barbeque for more than twenty years and you can really taste it. To me there is no other barbeque that can measure up to his. It is the best so if you are on I-95 take exit 31 in St. Pauls, North Carolina, then travel on Highway 20 make a left onto Convington Farm Road and travel into Rennert. Just stop an ask people for directions and I am sure that they have heard of Emmett McRae the barbeque man.
