Holt Lake Bar-B-Que and Seafood – Smithfield, North Carolina

Location: I-95, Exit 90, Smithfield, North Carolina

The food here is awesome and the service is wonderful! Holt Lake Restaurant is a local establishment specializing in pork, chicken, and seafood. I’ve tried just about everything on the menu at one time or another, and it’s all great! All the food is fresh and served piping hot! They have great sweet tea!

The restaurant gets a little crowded at night, but it’s worth the wait. This is one great restaurant! It’s located just 1 mile off of exit 90 on US 301 north, on your left. Holt Lake Bar-B-Que and Seafood is worth your time. Give it a try.

Iron Skillet – Elkton, Maryland

Location: I-95, Exit 109, Elkton, Maryland

Iron Skillet is a chain restaurant in a truck stop but it offers some of the best American food I’ve ever had. The service at this location is outstanding and there’s a terrific little retail store next door. I recommend this restaurant to anyone traveling down I-95 and looking for a good meal at a reasonable price.

Moore BBQ – Kenley, North Carolina

Location: I-95 Exit 107, Kenley, North Carolina

You will miss one of the best North Carolina BBQ places if you don’t get off Exit 107 (Kinley-Wilson) and travel east two blocks to Moore BBQ (on your right) for lunch, dinner or take home a pound or two in your cooler. This restaurant has the best shredded Pork BBQ and BBQ chicken in North Carolina and if you’re lucky they’ll have their delicious Collard Greens, too. If the Collards aren’t in season, try their cabbage as it is equally as good. Great cole slaw, and hot delicious hush puppies served with every dish!. They are closed on Sunday and Monday!

Blimpie Subs – Various Locations

I’m a sub man. Always was, always will be. On the road (I’m a salesman) I need good food fast and cheap. Blimpie’s is great food, cheap. I just whip out my Blimpie’s card, order a 12″ Blimpie’s Best and I’m good to go. It’s healthy food too… but that’s not why I like it. It’s just good ;-)

Ruby Tuesday – Waterville, Maine

Location: I-95, Exit 130, Waterville, Maine

Ruby Tuesday opened a few years ago in Waterville near the Home Depot. This place is great. It’s like many new “neighborhood grill, bar & Pub” restaurants that are opening everywhere. This one has many posters and vintage things everywhere on the walls about the Waterville area and Colleges. The food is good and i especially like the half-pound chicken finger platter. The restaurant looks good inside and out!

The Dog House – New Castle, Delaware

Location: I-95, Exit 13, New Castle, Delaware
There is a small take-out, eat-in place called The Dog House in State Roads, Delaware (Newcastle) on northbound US 13-40, just south of the Delaware Memorial Bridge and, therefore, off I-95. I never miss it – just cannot get better subs ANYWHERE! Blimpys and Subway PALE by comparison (little league!). There dogs are pretty good, too!

USS Chowder Pot – Branford, Connecticut

Location: I-95 Exit 56, Branford, Connecticut

We saw a sign for this place on I-95 when My husband and I were heading towards Massachusetts. The traffic was not moving, and it was starting to rain so we decided to get off for awhile and get something to eat.

This place is not only cozy, and the service wonderful and friendly, but the food, is so good. My husband got the lobster pot, what a feast, and for the price, well you just cannot beat it. I had the seafood platter, alot of good food, for very reasonable prices. They serve homemade fresh hot bread, which is so good. The waitresses make you feel like they know you, they just make you feel like you are glad you came there, excellent service. Try the New England Clam Chowder, excellent. We make a point of waiting to eat until we can get to this place, its well worth it.

We do not get up that often as we live down south, but when we are heading up North to Massachusetts, well we hold out to eat until we can get to this place. You will not be disappointed. We go there on the way up and on the way back. You just feel like you got a great meal at a great price.

Try it, I think you will be glad you did.

Brookside Restaurant – Smyrna, Maine

Location: I-95, Exit 286, Smyrna, Maine

If you travel long enough north on I-95 you will come to a small town in Maine off of Exit 286, called Smyrna. By stopping at the restaurant that is directly off of the exit you will have the opportunity to eat at the finest homestyle cooking restaurant in New England (at least). It’s name is Brookside Inn.

People have traveled from Southern Maine (a great distance if you travel Maine very often) just to dine at this small but comfortable place and I for one have traveled from New Hampshire for their scrumptious Rueben Sandwich or their chicken pie and Homemade French Fries. Their homemade breads and desserts are worth the long trek as well.

I hope you have the privilege of someday traveling to Smyrna, Maine and enjoying Brookside Inn (and it’s owners who are very welcoming and kind).

Jake’s Steak and Ribs – Santee, South Carolina

Location: I-95, Exit 98, Santee, South Carolina

I have been stopping at Jake’s for the past 10 years. The ribs are fantastic. Jake’s has a friendly bar. They use to sell their great Bar-B-Q sauces [mustard based and tomato based] in jars, now you have to ask them to fill up a coffee cup to go.

Don’t expect too much atmosphere, Jake’s is short on that. Go there for the ribs and unwind at the bar. There are plenty of motel rooms available within walking distance.

Cracker Barrel – Various Locations

We’ve always enjoyed breakfast at the Cracker Barrel. They give you good southern food and good friendly service. They also serve lunch and dinner. We recommend this restaurant for a good hearty breakfast at reasonable prices. The rest rooms are very clean. They have a nice gift shop, and have some very charming country items.
