Shorty’s BBQ – Kingsland, GA

Location: I-95, exit 3 – Kingsland, Georgia

Shorty’s BBQ is a tiny red stand tucked between a BP and a Wendy’s just off I-95, 2 miles after (or before) you cross the Florida border. Lots of BBQ joints in Georgia get more notoriety, but this one is the best. Just get a simple pork sandwich, pure chopped pork on a bun with just the right amount (not too much) sauce. The sandwich must weigh about half a pound and the price is extremely reasonable. And while you’re enjoying it, laugh at the majority of folks who are pulling into Wendy’s next door for the same bland burgers they eat at home. You can get NOTHING like Shorty’s at home. And don’t forget a tall cold cup of GREAT sweet tea to wash this beauty down!

The Smokey Pig Restaurant – Ashland, VA

Location: I-95, exit 92 – Ashland, Virginia

If you’re looking for a nice restaurant that serves great prime rib or ribs, Smokey Pig is the place. It is located in Ashland, less than 1/4 mile west of I-95. This place is hog heaven! When you enter you’ll be greeted by just about every pig curio that has ever been made… pig shirts, earrings, hats, jewelry and statues and in the waiting room which is inside the restaurant. The covered waiting room holds about 50 people. You’ll find that on weekends the waiting room is full! Most waits are less than one hour. The food is well worth the wait. They are closed on Mondays.

Old Country Buffet – Christiana, DE

Old Country Buffet is the king of all buffets… besides Captain George’s seafood buffet in Virginia Beach. A friend and I went in a few months ago and were jaws dropped staring at all the beautiful yumminess. I had tacos, chicken and dumplings, salad, desserts, soup, ice cream, lasagna… and probably more I can’t remember. The taco shells were a little stale… and that is my only complaint.

Oliver’s

Location: I-95 Exit 97, Selma, North Carolina

Any time we do the trip to Rhode Island from Florida, we always make plans to stop at exit 97 in Selma, North Carolina which has the popular JR’s which is a huge store with discounts on everything from Cigarettes to books to gifts, perfume, jewelery and clothes (right next door to a huge dollar store) and we eat at a little buffet style place called Oliver’s. They have great food and a great price! There is something for everyone and they even have desserts in their buffet. Great tasting food, not that lousy cafeteria stuff you usually get at these buffet places. Last time I went, it was 4.95 for lunch or 6.95 for dinner all you can eat!
